Book Review - My Life by Fidel Castro & Ignacio Ramonet

The death of Fidel Castro sent shock waves in many parts of the world. Thousands of people went in an instant sad mood, while there were few whose mood was otherwise.

People of my age or younger know less about this distinct person.  Here is a book that will give you a deep insight in the personality of Fidel Castro and what all made him for what he is known around the globe.

My Life by Fidel Castro is a must read book which will disclose many unknown things about him.
This book is written by Fidel Castro along with Ignacio Ramonet and has been translated by Andrew Hurley.

In conversation with Ignacio, Castro states that when the Soviet Union and the socialist camp disappeared, no one was willing to spend even one cent to support the Cuban revolution.

The Caribbean Islands plunged into a grim period in 1990's, as Soviet withdrew its support and the overnight loss of the suppliers and main markets of Cuba.

On the other side of the water, US backed Dictator Fugencio Batista make preparation to reclaim the factories, farms and bordellos which were fought and take over by Castro, Che Guevara and their followers.

The world was expecting and waiting that the Cuban regime will embrace the end of history and bow to the global triumph of capitalism.

Decades have gone by, and the wait is still not over.

Defying the forces of politics, the shattered economy of Cuba was rebuilt, it preserved its independence, and moved away from the most damaging comprises it was forced to make.

This book takes you the through twisted and turned journey of a towering political figure, Fidel Castro. For more than half a century, he dominated Cuba and the world stage.

In the book, My Life, Fidel Castro has spoken openly for the first time, starting from his parents to the early influences he had during imprisonment.

The readers will get to know about his relationship with Che Guevara, the missile crisis, the Cuban revolution, the guerrilla war and on to the Bay of Pigs.

Fidel Castro also talks about the people he knew from Ernest Hemingway to John F. Kennedy.
Regardless of what you think of Fidel Castro, this book is an important record of an extraordinary life.
